Bringing the Internet to Afghanistan. I think this project could be a central part of actually making progress in the region and showing the people there that they can truly benefit from efforts to stabilize the security there.
Hopefully the troop surge that President Obama just announced will enable this project to flourish.

I'll clean this post up later on, but a co-worker pointed it out & I wanted to throw it up right away!
Mind over matter: Brain waves control Asimo
Much of the work on this looks to have been done by the Honda Research Institute.
They also have a US branch!

Sea-based X-band Radar

This has very little to do with the subject of this blog, but it is fantastic science that I was impressed by and wanted to share. The SBX (Sea-based X-band Radar) is an extremely high-powered radar station on a mobile platform so that it can be used wherever needed.
After thinking about what correlation it had to this page I did find a good one actually, in that it is based on a floating platform that was originally developed for oil-drilling, and that a similar free floating platform is part of the leading proposal for the space elevator.

1st Post
Woo hoo! And I'm not doing it on my laptop, who's purchase was something that I deemed needed to happen for some reason before I created a website of any kind.
We'll see what I do with this space. I want to find collaborators on projects involving the Human Brain-Computer Interface for which this page gets the first half of its name. Whenever I come across the subject the computer scientist in me is energized into demanding that progress must be made in the direction of computers understanding human thought and therefore people being able to more directly create and realize their dreams then at any time in history.
There are efforts underway at several major universities in this direction. I have read in the headlines and during my own intermittent hour long research dives on the subject - bits and pieces of information which are intriguing, but I have yet to find a site that brings this information together in a way that people can understand the current state of this research, so that is one goal for this site that I think is within reach.
The second part of the site's name refers most directly to the space elevator. Since first getting over the audacity of the idea I have been in love with it and explained it with as much detail as friends/family/bystanders would allow me time before moving on to more Earth based pursuits.
I don't expect to be involved with any projects directly related to the space elevator, though if anyone knows of one happening within 100 miles of Omaha I would gladly buy a round of drinks for anyone seriously pursuing its realization.
